As well, check the company's website itself. This will likely be full of glowing praise, most of which will be unsubstantiated. However, many companies are beginning to conduct customer satisfaction surveys, which are carried out by accredited survey companies and which are independent of the home insurance company itself. These can give a fairly accurate reading of how the company deals with new customers, claims, and any problems that may arise.

It is always worth doing some research to determine how a company deals with its clients.
